Updated: What Is A Storm Surge And How Do We Prepare For It? (Videos + Infographic)
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). In a way, we know the feeling, as we were also devastated by Ondoy more than four years ago. However, I would have to admit that Ondoy looked like a very tame typhoon compared to Yolanda, which is many times deadlier because of its storm surge. Question is, do we really know what a storm surge is?

Pope Francis calls for prayers
Pope Francis calls for prayers, expresses closeness to Yolanda victims
Pope Francis on Saturday asked the faithful to pray for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda, which devastated much of the central Philippines this weekend.
The Pope, in a post on his Twitter account, also expressed closeness to Filipinos, referring to the Philippines as the "beloved islands."
Meanwhile, an article posted on the Vatican news portal said the Pope assured Filipinos of his prayers as they tried to recover from the devastation caused by the Category 5 cyclone.
"The storm churned across the archipelago country and was headed to Vietnam by Saturday evening," the article noted.
On Saturday evening, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said some 138 people had been confirmed dead in Yolanda's wake.

POPE FRANCIS prayer for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda
I ask all of you to join me in prayer for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda especially those in the beloved islands of the Philippines
“Deeply saddened by the destruction and loss of life caused by the super typhoon, His Holiness Pope Francis expresses his heartfelt solidarity with all those affected by this storm and its aftermath. He is especially mindful of those who mourn the loss of their loved ones and of those who have lost their homes. In praying for all the people of the Philippines, the Holy Father likewise offers encouragement to the civil authorities and emergency personnel as they assist the victims of this storm. He invokes divine blessings of strength and consolation for the Nation.”
